The House
Monteviot itself is an ancient site, and Dere Street, the Roman road from York to Newstead at Melrose (Trimontium), runs through the park. The present house of Monteviot began as an early-eighteenth century lodge built by the 1st Marquis of Lothian.

The Gardens
Welcome to Monteviot House Gardens. These, extending to some thirty acres, surround the House itself, spilling down over lawn and through woodland onto the flood plain of the river Teviot below. The overall Garden comprises a series of differing gardens, designed to provide the visitor with planting interest from April until October.

Activities
Monteviot being situated in the depths of the Borders offers great opportunities for various activities. It is at the centre of a series of recognised walks both long and short, including Dere Street, St Cuthbert’s Way and marked walks to the Waterloo Monument on Penielheugh behind and above the House.

A Chopin recital not to be missed and benefitting from acclaimed acoustics in The Great Hall at Monteviot House. Tickets include a glass of wine on Thursday 28th March and a buffet with a glass of wine on Friday 29th March.
